Yorkshire Muddings comes to Grass Hoppers Tong!

Yorkshire Muddings was founded in 2021 and created and run by a trained Level 3 Forest School leader and an experienced primary school teacher, alongside a team of other highly qualified and experienced educational professionals. Victoria, Susannah and Jodie are passionate about creating classrooms without walls and letting children be children outside in the wild.

Hiding just beyond the outdoor play area at Grass Hoppers Tong is a secret little woodland, Yorkshire Muddings and our Grass Hoppers gang at Tong have turned the area into a beautiful secret woodland garden for stay and play sessions outside in nature.

Grass Hoppers entry is not included, play sessions can be booked for before/after your Yorkshire Muddings session at the reception desk.

The secret woodland garden features a beautiful rockery that feeds a pond, a HUGE Horse Chestnut tree that provides the most beautiful natural shade, and a big open clearing where we have set up loose parts play and a gardening play area. There is a massive mud kitchen, rolling tyres, and a shelter over the fire pit for those all-important S’mores that Muddings is famous for.

Forest School lead at Yorkshire Muddings, Tong garden Centre

Jodie is Yorkshire Muddings newest recruit and Forest School Lead at the Tong Garden Centre site, she brings amazing energy and genuine passion for woodland play!

Jodie’s been a customer at Muddings since the beginning and is a true believer in what Yorkshire Muddings do, why they do it, and championing the cause of outdoor play. Her love of outdoor play began as a child – making mud pies was her favourite pastime and is now a core memory.

When asked what Jodie wants from the new site she said this: “That we help foster resilient, confident and well-rounded children who are ready to take on the world; my biggest hope is that when they grow up, they remember their time playing in the woods in all weathers sharing mud pies in the mud kitchen just as fondly as I do.”

Sessions run at Grass Hoppers on Wednesdays and Fridays, and at the Grange Moor woodland on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Suitable for confidently walking children up to age 7 within term time and children up to age 11 in school holidays.

Booking is required, and sessions cost £12 for the first child and £6 per child thereafter, non-walkers and adults go free.
