It’s a hive of activity at Grass Hoppers right now and we’re thrilled to announce that indoor play is now open – so many of you have suggested it and we know this has been eagerly awaited! We’ve thought carefully about the experience and implemented many of the important features that we know you value for kids’ play areas, including a clean, safe and secure place to play, family-friendly restaurant, new amenities with many more toilets, plus changing cubicles and brand new party rooms!
Due to the nature of the equipment, the health and safety regulations for indoor play are quite different from those governing outdoor play so we have introduced some important changes that we hope you’ll agree will make Grass Hoppers an even better experience for kids and grown-ups alike.
To ensure we operate within all health and safety requirements specified and the capacity on the indoor play frame is never exceeded, we will introduce new playtime sessions on peak days. Peak days are at weekends, Bank Holidays and weekdays during the school holidays. Given our location, it’s good to know we include the school holidays and term times of the four local boroughs in our area, namely Leeds, Bradford, Kirklees and Calderdale.
A ‘peak’ day playtime session will last two and a quarter hours on all peak days except on Sundays, when they will be slightly shorter due to Sunday trading laws imposed on the garden centre. At the end of each peak day playtime session, we will close for 30 minutes to get all the areas of Grass Hoppers, the toilets and restaurant ready for our next guests.
On ‘off peak’ play days, that is to say term time weekdays, we offer one playtime session with no specified start or end time, so capacity will be managed on an ongoing basis throughout the day.
Although indoor regulations have necessitated these changes, we know many of you shared feedback with us about overcrowding, with your children sometimes unable to use the play equipment. So we think you’ll agree that these changes mean an even better experience where children can play, discover, learn and explore in a safe, clean and fun environment.
We know that when your little ones arrive at Grass Hoppers, they’re itching to get inside and play! So to make the entry process quick and easy for our guests, we have introduced online booking. This means that you can go online to select your play days and, when relevant, your playtime sessions in advance of your visit.
What’s more, booking in advance ensures entry, so no fear of a sell-out playtime session with no remaining availability when your kids are all set to play. On arrival, entry is quick and simple - you’ll only need to present your ticket, either printed out or on a smart phone that we will scan as you enter.
Of course, you can still arrive on the day to pay for your play time, although entry will naturally depend on whether spaces are available, so we’d recommend booking online to avoid any disappointment.
With the introduction of our brand new indoor play, we have remained passionate about Grass Hoppers being an affordable and accessible place for families, carers and groups to come and play. For this reason, we have only made a relatively small increase to the entry price and tickets will be an ‘access all areas pass’ to all the play equipment* – that’s both inside and out in a fantastic play space that has almost doubled in size! For example, a peak day play is currently £4.50 per child for our outdoor playground only and a new peak day playtime session will be just £5.75 for an ‘access all areas ticket’, or £5.25 if you opt for the slightly shorter Sunday playtime sessions.
Our online booking system does however prevent us from continuing to offer our free play loyalty card so we’ll be introducing our freebee card instead, read on to find out more!
*Racing cars and diggers remain coin operated.
We are thrilled to say that Grass Hoppers will now include a fantastic family friendly restaurant with plenty of seating for everyone – from sofas and soft seating to dining tables and chairs – in fact 260 seats inside as well as all the outdoor seating!
From yummy pizzas and Paninis to tasty breakfasts and award winning ice cream, Woody’s Kitchen has a team of chefs creating a delicious menu of favourites for kids and grown-ups! We’ve also introduced a brand new reward card - pick up your ‘FreeBee’ Card when you visit and collect a stamp with every hot drink or ice cream you buy and your 9th is a freebee!
Of course, you are still welcome to bring a picnic to eat in our designated picnic area which will be located in our outdoor playground. For health and safety, we don’t allow glass bottles and barbeques are not permitted. Alcohol is also strictly forbidden in Grass Hoppers.
Grass Hoppers has always been about kids enjoying a fantastic playtime and that often means getting grubby in the process so we know it’s important to have all the amenities and facilities in place. So whether its sandy toes, sticky fingers or mucky chops – it’s now really easy to get squeaky clean in our brand new supersized changing room with many more sinks and new changing cubicles!
You’ll also find we’ve added lots more toilets located inside, all in addition to the toilets already located in the outdoor playground. What’s more, we’ve introduced a mother and baby feeding zone and a pram store – both new to Grass Hoppers thanks to your helpful feedback!
We get so many requests for birthday parties and we’re really thrilled to tell you that three large indoor party rooms have been created! The Den, The Burrow and The Hive are great spaces to host your child’s birthday party and, with three great packages to choose from, you and your party guests will enjoy the hoppiest of birthdays!
Although we recognise that Grass Hoppers has operated quite differently in the past, we feel certain that the new changes will actually ensure an even better experience for all our guests, especially as overcrowding, limited food choices and insufficient toilets were often in the feedback that you shared with us. Our terrific team are all set to help you and will be on hand to clarify any queries.
